Düsseldorf's parks & gardens
The parks and gardens in Düsseldorf are great places to relax - at least in good weather. If you're travelling with children and therefore have to plan more activity in your day - take them to the petting zoo and the Wildpark. You can meet friends for a ball game or some table-tennis in the leisure parks. Just bring your own equipment along.
Experience the diversity of the museums
The promotion of culture is considered important in Düsseldorf. Naturally, some of the generosity also benefits the general public. Many museums have free admission during the last hour of opening. This invitation holds good for the following permanent and special exhibitions:
- Heinrich Heine Institut
- Theatermuseum (Theatre Museum)
- Stadtmuseum (City Museum)
- Goethe-Museum
- Filmmuseum (Film Museum)
- Hetjens Museum.
The Stadtmuseum (City Museum) grants you free admission to the permanent exhibitions at any time.
The KPMG cultural evenings in the museums K20 and K21 (Please note: K20 closed temporarily, reopening autumn 2009! The K21 will remain unaffected.) are also free. There is a richly varied programme with various themes and other events on the first Wednesday of every month - and admission is free.
This is where they play at politics - A guided tour through the town hall
To have a look at what the local politicians are up to, take the guided tour through the town hall. Visitors are allowed into the plenary hall and the reception room of the Lord Mayor and can get plenty of information on the history of the city.
Free city guide
Would you like to discover Düsseldorf on your own, but without meandering aimlessly? Then get hold of the free city guide. It has three routes - take your pick!

The best things in Düsseldorf are free anyway: meeting friendly people, admiring the modern architecture, walking along the Rhine and so forth. But in addition, there are other freebies available that are not quite so obvious, but which you should not miss - for example, admission to museums. Here are a few of these places with free admission.
