Refugees are welcome!

For those travelling by train to North Rhine-Westphalia (Nordrhein-Westfalen, NRW), this is information on what to expect in Düsseldorf.

Refugees who come by train to Nordrhein-Westfalen will be received alternately by the city of Cologne (Köln) and the state capital Düsseldorf. Cologne (Köln) is responsible on days with uneven numbers (1st, 3rd, 5th etc. of the month). Düsseldorf is responsible on days with even numbers (2nd, 4th, 6t etc.). They are each responsible from 9 a.m. to 9 a.m. the following morning.

Special trains arrive at Düsseldorf Airport train station (Bahnhof Düsseldorf-Flughafen). Travellers on regular trains should also go to the long-distance train station (Fernbahnhof). From there you will be taken by bus to the receiving communities. Registration will not take place! You can only register and start the asylum procedure in the receiving communities.

At Düsseldorf Airport train station (Bahnhof Düsseldorf-Flughafen) there is a waiting area, where you can rest first. There you will receive something to eat and drink. You can get still (non-carbonated) water, snacks and a Halal vegetable soup.

Police, fire and emergency services - recognisable by their uniforms - will be present in the waiting area. These services are to support the helpers and can be recognised by their orange vests.

For babies and small children there are baby food and diapers. In addition, hygiene products will be distributed. There is a baby-care room.

There are charging stations for mobile phones as well as charging cables that can be used - please do not remove them!

If you have questions or problems, please contact the interpreter. He/She will put you in contact with the support staff.

If you want to continue your journey independently, you can do so. In the hall there is a ticket office which processes banknotes up to 50 euros. Otherwise, the travel centre of the Deutsch Bahn will be occupied. The railway staff will assist you. If you wish to travel independently but have no money, you must arrange and plan your journey at the places of accommodation.

If you need small change, you can change large euro bills into small euro bills. The exchange of foreign currencies is not possible!

If you need urgent medical assistance, get in touch with the helpers or an interpreter.

Transfer to the places of accommodation in other communities in Nordrhein-Westfalen will take place with buses. The bus journey to the places of accommodation may take up to three hours.
