The German shell collector and founder of our museum, Theodor Löbbecke, whose collection is still housed by the Aquazoo Löbbecke Museum Düsseldorf, would’ve turned 200 next year. We are celebrating this birthday with a special exhibition on shell collecting in which we want to present conchology as a vigorous hobby with an active and surprisingly large community. As a part of that, we would like to show (and get to know) the people behind both museum and private shell collections, the women and men who dedicate hundreds of hours in building and maintaining them. Thus, we would like to invite you to tell the world ‘that you are there’ and, by doing that, promoting malacology as both the hobby and the profession.

If you want to join us on that mission, please

1)    Post a photo on any social media platform depicting yourself in front of (a part of) your collection, maybe having an object in your hand that is special to you!
2)    Give us the following information in the description! Name, age, profession, collection interest (any special family or genus, marine/ freshwater…?), approximate number of shells collected
3)    Include the two hashtags in your description so that we can find you #MeAndMyShellCollection #FacesOfShellCollecting

In his hands he holds a photo of Löbbecke and a shell named after him: the Chicoreus (Pterynotus) loebbeckei (Kobelt, 1879). The type specimen of this species is part of the Löbbecke collection.
