With around 3,000 employees, three plants and a research centre, Vallourec plays a major part in shaping the production industry in Düsseldorf – and has been doing so since the beginning of industrialisation. After all the company can look back on a long tradition at this location. In 1899, the Mannesmann brothers began manufacturing seamless steel tubes in Düsseldorf and laid the foundation for the success that grew over decades, that had a significant influence on the city’s development and once made Düsseldorf Germany’s tube manufacturer.
The Düsseldorf Mannesmann production sites have been part of the Vallourec Group since 2005. Today, around 400,000 tons of seamless steel tubes are manufactured in Düsseldorf every year and they are used in the oil and gas industry, in power plant engineering, mechanical engineering and in the construction industry.
Energy efficiency record in Düsseldorf
There is an example right on our doorstep. In the new Fortuna block at the Lausward power station, seamless tubes from the patented steel VM12-SHC are installed in the boiler. Tubes made of this Vallourec steel help to break energy efficiency records. With an efficiency of 61 percent for pure electricity generation and around 85 percent for combined heat and power, the power station at Lausward is the most efficient natural gas power plant in the world.
