The state capital of North Rhine-Westphalia, Düsseldorf, the Rhine District of Neuss and the District of Mettmann have joined together to launch a successful collaborative scheme. Because the challenge of the future will be competition between regions, not between neighbouring communities and cities.
In the battle for investment it is not the boundaries of individual communities that count. Investors from abroad choose large-area locations. Community boundaries are often not noticed by investors abroad. What is decisive is the economic advantages of the whole region. Düsseldorf, together with its neighbouring districts of Mettmann and Neuss, is already way out in front in the race for foreign direct investment in Germany.
