On the occasion of their ten-date concert residency in Düsseldorf, Mayor Dr. Stephan Keller welcomed A.J. McLean, Brian Littrell, Howie Dorough, Kevin Richardson and Nick Carter to Düsseldorf City Hall on Tuesday, September 29. The Backstreet Boys signed the City of Düsseldorf’s Golden Book in the Jan-Wellem-Saal at City Hall.
"It is a great pleasure to welcome the Backstreet Boys to Düsseldorf City Hall. With ten concerts and more than 450,000 tickets sold, they are celebrating a very special European premiere here in Düsseldorf – and we are delighted that they chose our city for this occasion. Fans from all over the world are currently visiting us here on the Rhine, turning Düsseldorf into a sea of blue and white. The Backstreet Boys are not only bringing great music to our city, but are also bringing people from many different countries together. That is a perfect fit for our international and cosmopolitan city."
The Backstreet Boys’ ten concerts in Düsseldorf are the group’s only European dates as part of their current tour. The residency is also providing a significant boost to tourism in Düsseldorf: According to the City of Düsseldorf, around 94 percent of available hotel capacity is booked around the concert dates.
"The Backstreet Boys bring generations together. For many people, their songs are part of very personal memories. The fact that, after 30 years, they are now celebrating their special connection with Germany with a residency in Düsseldorf is something very special for our city as well,” Keller emphasized.
During their visit, Mayor Dr. Stephan Keller and D.LIVE Managing Director Michael Brill presented the band, as well as concert promoter Marek Lieberberg, CEO of Live Nation, with the "Sold-Out Award". The award recognizes artists who succeed in selling out the Merkur Spiel-Arena for their concerts in Düsseldorf.
The band thanked the Mayor and the City of Düsseldorf for the warm welcome. The Backstreet Boys have a long and special connection with Germany. They first performed in Germany in 1995 at Popkomm, where German fans were already able to sing along to their songs. The band is delighted that the enthusiasm and love of their German fans for the Backstreet Boys have remained strong throughout all these years. German fans have supported the band from the very beginning, and all five Backstreet Boys remain deeply grateful for that.
At the end of their visit, the five band members signed five city bikes dedicated to them. The “Backstreet Bikes” will be auctioned for charity. Further information on the auction will be announced at a later date.
