In his greeting words, Mayor Thomas Geisel emphasized: "2017 was a very eventful year for the German-Japanese relations in Dusseldorf. One highlight was definitely the Düsseldorf Evening in Tokyo with more than 1.000 representatives of Japanese companies and institutions. 2017 was also a successful year for the Japanese business location of Düsseldorf, as we were able to win another number of new and especially innovative Japanese companies to set up their business in our city. Moreover, we were able to celebrate expansions of already established Japanese enterprises in Düsseldorf."
The New Year’s Reception, which has been taking place since 1988, is a symbol for the special significance of the Japanese economic presence in Dusseldorf and North-Rhine Westphalia. Every year anew it is an impressive demonstration of the friendly relations between the City of Dusseldorf, the State of North-Rhine Westphalia and the Japanese Community. The New Year’s Reception for the Japanese business community is a distinctive feature and unique event of Düsseldorf just as the “Düsseldorf Evening in Tokyo” and the “Japan Day Düsseldorf/NRW”, which is the biggest binational Japan festival in the world.
