In the year of the Grand Départ Düsseldorf 2017, the town’s gardeners are planting flower tubs in the colours of the Tricolour throughout the city. As special decoration, at selected locations around 35 yellow-painted bicycles are to be added. In the tubs, red daisies, white horned violets and blue pansies are to blossom. The City Manager Burkhard Hintzsche and Theresa Winkels, Project Manager of the Grand Départ Düsseldorf 2017, presented the flower tubs planted in the colours of the Tricolour in front of the gardening office on Wednesday, 15 March. The gardeners first set up the flower tubs on Heinrich-Heine-Allee.

The bedding plants at various locations also reflect the anticipation of the start of the Tour de France. In Nordpark and in the garden on Königsallee, flowers are being planted in cyclist motifs, the team colours and the colours of the Tricolour.

After the kick-off, flower tubs with a total of 5,000 flowering plants will now successively be placed at the following locations:

  • Alt-Heerdt (monument)
  • Aquazoo
  • Bergischer Löwe (lion statue)
  • Blumenstraße (Wempe)
  • Carschhaus
  • Graf-Adolf-Platz
  • Inselstraße
  • Nordfriedhof (cemetary)
  • Nordpark (Administration Office 68)
  • Oberkassel (church)
  • Town hall, big and small tub
  • Regierungspräsidium (regional council)

  • In front of the trade fair

Various locations, including the Bergischen Löwe (lion statue), Graf-Adolf-Platz, Heinrich-Heine-Allee, Inselstraße and Rheinterrasse, will also be equipped with specially created yellow bicycles as special decorative elements.

In addition, at the beginning of May, the following beds are to be planted:

  • In the canal garden in Nordpark - behind the administrative building Kaiserswerther Straße – the gardners will plant decorative flowers in the four team colours of the Tour de France. However, there will be no extensive planting.
  • In the summer flower garden in Nordpark near Rotterdamer Straße, a "cyclist" which is easily recognisable from above will be planted with flowers.
  • At Tanzring in Nordpark, not far from Stockumer Kirchstraße, the gardners will plant flowers in the colours of the four teams and the Tricolour and
  • In Blumenring in the middle of Nordpark, 12 stylised cyclists are to be planted in the team colours.

In addition, the gardeners are to decorate the Kö-Gärtchen at the north end of Königsallee (at the level of Graf-Adolf-Platz) with flowers in the colours of the Tricolour.
